Should you be prompted to select what program opens an .accdb or .accde file, this means you do not have MS Access application on your PC. Microsoft offers a "Runtime" version that allows users who do not have MS Access as part of their Office Suite. This Microsoft access Runtime database software version allows these users to run programs developed with MS access. Their is no design capability with this version of MS Access. We recommend MS Access 2007 or above. We send you to a site that has a selection option for the version desired.
The link provides access to free ms access runtime download. Access 2007 Runtime is a download of AccessRuntime2007.exe that you run after downloading and it will install MS access. This is a 32 bit version.
Microsoft Access 2016, 2013 and 2010 each have 32 and 64-bit versions. The 32 and 64-bit versions are two distinct programs and cannot both be installed on the same machine. Note that even though your Windows version may be 64-bit, you may have the 32-bit version of Microsoft Access installed.
Note that links to Microsoft download page will prompt you for what version do you want (2013 and above), either 32 bit or 64 bit. If you have any questions please contact us.
Since the performance gain in the 64-bit version of Access is fairly modest, we generally recommend using the 32-bit version to avoid incompatibilities. However the downloaded zip file contains the application for both 32 bit and 64 bit.
